Heroes Square

Heroes' Square, also known as Hősök tere, is not just one of the most recognizable monuments in Budapest, but also in the entirety of Hungary. The massive statues of significant personalities from Hungary's past can be found positioned around the enormous area. Located at the end of the renowned Andrássy Avenue, these statues and the enormous obelisk in the center of the plaza are visible from a great distance and dominate the surrounding landscape.

Get off the Budapest tour bus at the stop designated specifically for Heroes Square and explore the surrounding area. The square is essentially the number one entry point to the city's largest public park, which also houses the Széchenyi Thermal Baths, Hop on Hop off Budapest's next stop; it is surrounded by the Museum of Fine Arts on one side and the Budapest Kunsthalle on the other; both of these landmarks are located on the opposite side of the square.

Heroes' Square, which is one of the largest squares in the city, is frequently the location of a variety of activities and events. Even on the dullest weekdays, you can find something interesting to watch, whether it be political rallies, chariot and horse races (yep, you read that correctly), music festivals, or skaters and skateboarders! Because there are a number of museums and attractions in the area, tourist buses frequently stop here to unload their excited passengers.

Because there is so much space, the square will never appear or feel crowded Heroes’ Square is the 9th stop of your Hop On Hop Off sightseeing tour and also the first stop of the Ligetbus. Because there is so much space, the square will never appear or feel crowded even when it is full with people. Having said that, the greatest time to go to Heroes' Square is around sunset, as this is when the light falls on the massive monuments in the most flattering way. Keep in mind that the temperatures on the hot tiles of the square can reach the upper 30s Celsius during the summer, particularly around noon.
